Have you ever had your computer crash and lost all your files? Even less extreme, have you ever had trouble merging your old files onto your new computer? If you answered yes, Tilana would have saved you.

What is Tilana? Tilana lets you:

continuously protect files off site, as you work. Sync files between your PCs; at work, at home, or on a laptop. Get any current or previous version of a file in seconds - from your protected computers, or via the Web. Upload and download your files from anywhere, using easy secure Tilana Reserve Web access.

I haven’t used Tilana myself, but it seems fairly ingenious. You download a program that will keep track of any folders or files on your desktop. As you modify files, it uploads the new files onto the server seamlessly. That’s right, you don’t have to tell it to upload every time you need it to. It scans and does it automatically. There are also a host of options you can configure to have your backups be just to your liking. There many more features that you can read about here.

Unfortunately, Tilana isn’t free. They don’t make their pricing scheme very clear either. From what it looks like, the service costs $19.95/mo plus a onetime $2 per Gb charge. Seems slightly pricey personally, but for what it does it may be worth it to some. I see this being a great service for those with lots of photos or documents that they want to have backed up continuously. Check out Tilana if you need continuous data protection, file synchronization, or remote access for your files. One last note, Mac users are out of luck. Their sync software works for XP and Vista only. Give it a try if you’ve got some important files and some cash to burn.
