10 of the Best Free Windows Mobile Apps
CeRegEditor: CeRegEditor is a desktop program that allows you to view and edit the registry of your mobile device. Just plug in your phone to your computer and connect to it using the program. Very useful program, and it doesn’t even take up any precious resources on your phone when not in use.

iFonz: iPhone look-a-like home screen replacement. Doesn’t add much new functionality aside from the new look. Rumor has it that it’s a memory hog.

Kevtris: After looking for a free Tetris clone for some time, I finally found Kevtris. It includes more then five game modes, including classic Tetris play. You’ll want this during your next meeting. Trust me.

My Mobiler: Want to control your phone from your desktop? I thought so. My Mobiler lets you use your PC to navigate your phone when it’s connected via ActiveSync. You can take screenshots and video. I originally wrote about it here.

SKTools Lite: SKTools lite is the freeware version of SKTools. It deletes old/obsolete files, cleans your registry, fixes bad shortcuts, benchmarks your phone’s performance, and can help you free a lot of tied up RAM. It usually takes a few scans before it finds everything, but the results are great. I like the free version so much I’ve been considering upgrading to the full version.
Windows Mobile 5 &6

Skype for Windows Mobile: Use Skype on your mobile phone and save yourself some money. It’s a beastly 12 mb and requires a live data or WiFi connection, but it works like a charm.

Spybot - Search & Destroy Mobile: Spybot has long been a popular spyware remover for PCs. Now you can have the same power and protection on your Windows Mobile. Don’t forget to update the database after you install it.
Works on Windows CE 3.0 and up

Hi John,
Gil from fring here. I wanted to thank you for including fring in your top 10 applications list.
Just wanted to make a lil’ correction: the name of the company is “fring” (no ‘e’)
Thanks,
Gil
@Gil Ah, of course. My mistake. I’ve fixed the problem. Thanks for stopping by!
Hi John
Nice list you got there. I did one recently too on my site: 111 Free Software To Improve Windows Mobile. You can check it out here:

You missed the mother of them all “BatteryStatus”. Despite the name, its miles more than just a battery status program. It has so many features that I can’t even list them here but can just say that it can replace just about every today plugin you need, be it a mobile status monitor, launcher, htc home, registry tracker, missed calls, sms tracker, call, data counter, and much more. Its so extensible u can even emulate iphone interfaces using it..

@Shantanu Goel: Thanks for pointing that one out! I actually hadn’t heard of it before. If anyone is looking for a link, check out BatteryStatus for Windows Mobile. It looks like a robust tool that, like you said, does quite a bit. Thanks!
Oh yeah, one more thing. I missed out its most important feature. It also provides cpu overclocking and cpu scaling (dynamic load based overclocking) for all the TI OMAP based phones.

Hi John,
Interesting applications. I’m particularly interested in this iFonz - iPhone interface emulator.I think it’s great that WM devices can provide at least to some extent the same functionallity as iPhone.
