Two Free Source of Web Traffic

This entry was posted on Oct 16 2007

Getting web traffic can be one of the most frustrating and rewarding things about starting a new website. Luckily, it just got a little easier. Enter ReviewBack and Adgridwork. These two websites, created and maintained by the same group, let you create an easy flow of traffic to your website by participation in blog post exchanges (RevewBack) and an ad swap (Adgridwork). Both are easy ways of brining in traffic to your new site. Oh, and both are free. Hey, you may even see these services around here once in a while. Read on to find out the details.

ReviewBack.comLet’s start with ReviewBack. Swapping blog posts with other bloggers is not a new concept. But ReviewBack has made it a whole lot easier. Once you log in you are asked to submit your blog to the database. You insert a description, keywords, and the URL. After submitting your blog, you can browse the blog database and contact other bloggers (via their dashboard interface). The selection of blogs signed up seems relatively large, so you’ll have to be fairly selective in your choice of who to exchange posts with.

Writing reviews or posts about each other’s blog is a sweet way to bring some immediate attention to your blog. There is a requirement that you make note that it is a blog exchange when you write the review, but that is only fair for the readers.

ReviewBack states on their website:

While traditional advertising and marketing is still affective, in today’s blogosphere the easiest and most effective way of promoting your content and website is by having fellow bloggers write about and link to your site. reviewback takes all of the work out of tracking down and negotiating with fellow bloggers. Instead, we provide a marketplace and trading ground where bloggers and copywriters alike can get in touch with one another and help each other increase their exposure.

I think ReviewBack is a good idea that I may actually use on occasion. Thoughts and comments?

Another interesting service is called Adgridwork. It is a free text advertisement exchange service. The ads look similar to Google’s Adsense, but are distinct enough that you can use both of them together (they make this claim right on their site). The setup is similar to Adsense as well. Chose your colors and layout, then paste the script onto your site. You make an ad for your site that is displayed else where, while you display ads for other websites. This advertising does not have money involved, its all in reciprocal traffic. To your right is an example of what an ad for my site could look like (the colors could vary).

Be careful, these ads do not currently work with Opera. Viewers using Opera will simply see an empty space. I considered using these ads but changed my mind for this reason. I received an email indicating that this problem is known about and that is on their list of things to fix sometime in the future.

Overall, these look like two intriguing services. I can see these being very helpful for startup bloggers and websites looking for some quick, yet quality traffic. I’d be interested in hearing anyone’s experiences with them.
