The Best Freeware List Ever

This entry was posted on Jan 14 2008

I am cheap. I don’t like paying money for things unless they really deserve it. Thus I’m always looking for good free or open source software. At least I was until I found Tech Support Alert’s list of The 46 Best-ever Freeware Utilities. I found this list some time ago and have used it constantly. Anytime I need a piece of free software, I reference this list first.

Tech Support Alert, run by Ian “Gizmo” Richards, has many great resources concerning PC security and utilities, but the 46 best freeware list is by far my favorite. It has categories from “Best Free Firewall” to “Best Free Secure Erase Utility”, to the common “Best Free Web Browser”. Each category highlights why Gizmo chose that particular piece of software as the best utilitiy. It also gives good alternatives if that one isn’t to your liking. And even more, if you subscribe to his free monthly news letter you get access to a list containing an additional 56 cagegories of “best freeware”. Although I don’t agree with having to subscribe to get access to the list, the newsletter is actually very informative. I’ve paid in the past to get the “Premium Edition” of the newsletter and never regreted it.

This list has been around for a while, so hopefully you’ve heard about it. If not, head over to Tech Support and check out this killer list.

  1. Awesome list. Thanks for the heads up man.

I like how he embeded sponsored links as part of the list. :)

I’m actually going to try a few of those things tonight. Specifically the Trojan remover. My home laptop randomly dies and I can’t figure out why. It’s probably a h/w issue, but it might well be some virus acting crazy.

  2. @Mike No problem! Yeah, every time I need a piece of software I check this list first. It has a category for just about everything!
