1,000 Spam Blocked and Counting: Thank You Akismet
Today Simply-Basic reached 1,000 blocked spam messages! Not a huge number, but a milestone nevertheless. In the five months of Simply-Basic’s life, only one spam message has ever gotten through. That’s a pretty impessive filter that has saved me many hours time. Thank you Akismet!

Hey John,
I noticed you had the spam blocked counter at the bottom of your page.
Where did you get the CSS/code from? I like the default blue one but I have no idea what’s an easy way to implement it, since my theme won’t accept widgets.
Hence I need to manually code it into the sidebar, but I found no references to how that’s done.

@Mike To get that counter to appear I just use the code that I think I found in the readme for the Akismet plugin: <?php akismet_counter(); ?>
To get rid of the blue background, I just deleted it from the Akismet plugin folder. Not that elegant, but it works!
Sweet! That works.
Teach me to read documentation more carefully next time. I’ve only got 175 spam comments.
I actually caught the spam bots in the act. They all had the same referral browser, yet different IPs of course.
Spammers are the kind of people that I wish I could meet on the street so I could punch them in the face.
They’re scum and an annoyance…

Congrats in a way John. The more spam you get, the more popular you and your blog are becoming :)
