WordPressers will be happy to know that WordPress 2.5 RC2 has been released. It’s important to note that this is a “release candidate”, meaning it’s not the final stable version. For those not yet ready to try out 2.5 quite yet, Matt has uploaded a 17mb screencast detailing some of the changes in version 2.5, including the new gallery system. I’ll be trying out this new release on my local installation to check the compatability with my site’s current plugins. You can download the new version directly or check out Matt’s announcement. I’m diggin’ WordPress’ new threads, are you?

Recently I blogged about the WordPress Market Theme and how impressed I was by it. I finally got a chance to give it an actual test drive and I stand by my review. Anyone who has ever considered opening an online store would find the Market theme just what they’re looking for. The price used to be just $40, but it was just increased to $55. Even at this new price it’s a killer deal for all the features it has. Those still wanting it for $40 have until 9pm EST to order it using the code “Fastbuy”. After that the $55 price takes full effect. Order the Market Theme now to save yourself $15. I doubt you’ll…

Anyone looking for a high traffic, PR7 WordPress-related site? Small Potato announced today that he’s selling WPDesigner.com, his extremely popular WordPress blog that he uses to release themes and report on other WordPress news. He states that he’ll be traveling for the next year as the motivating factor behind the sale. Darn, just when I decided to join the Theme Club, too. You can view his listing at SitePoint here.

I just came across a great premium WordPress theme called Market that I thought some of you may enjoy. I don’t typically talk to much about premium themes, but this one is worth mentioning!
Market is a marketplace built for WordPress. It uses custom fields to store product image information as well as price info which can be sent directly to PayPal when a customer choses to make a purchase. The theme has a minimalist look, but I prefer that as I usually alter the theme’s appearance anyway.
Best of all, the premium theme is only $40 for a user license (on as many websites as you want). I most likely will be picking up a copy of this…

I don’t normally like embedded videos. That’s why you’ve never seen one on Simply-Basic before. However, I came across this video that left me quite impressed. The program that the video shows is called “Assist Sketch Understanding System and Operation.” It is a physics simulation environment. I believe it’s a demonstration by an MIT professor, but I’m not sure on that point.
Quite an impressive setup! A comment on the YouTube video sums up my thoughts: “a lot of stickmen would die if i had that.. …and i want it lol” -scarrmat
A 2D physics program called Phun is available for free, though it’s just not as cool the guy writing on the screen.

A few day’s ago I saw a headline over at Jeffro2pt0 that got me excited. Chris Johnston has a demo site that lets you give WordPress 2.5 a spin. I finally got around to trying it, and it looks quite impressive. The entire admin interface has been redesigned and is easier to use. One of the upgrades I’m excited about is the ability to edit the feed content which appears on the main dashboard page. Now I can stop getting all those annoying updates.
Remember, this isn’t the final, stable version. This is merely a pre-release that Chris has installed for the public to monkey around with. But it makes me excited for its release in a another…
