Just saw this one thanks to one of my readers. SitePoint is giving away a free Ruby on Rails book by Patrick Lenz on how to build your own web applications in Ruby on Rails. The book has 12 chapters and 447 pages. You can get the e-book for free, or a printed edition for a generous discount. I downloaded mine earlier. All you do is give them your email and they send you the link. Oh, it’s only free for another month from the time I am writing this. You can download it here.

Update 11/16/07: I realized I had a few typos in some of the code, below. If you’ve been having trouble getting this working, re-copy the code that links your HTML document to the scripts. It should be working now.
I’ve always been a fan of tabs. I think they are not only useful at clearing up clutter, but they can be down right sexy if they’re done right. A while ago I can across Nyokiglitter’s website where she throws up some of her examples of scripts using MooFX. That’s where I found this next script for this tutorial. This script provides a tabs unit that uses a nice sliding effect when changing tabs. It is based on…

So I’ve been looking for an easy plugin that would let me highlight my own comments to help them stand out more. People who comment often have questions or things that I need to address. By highlighting my responses, it can make it much easier for people to find them. There have been number of plugins that do this. The problem is that it usually requires you to access your theme’s comments code and make some edits, a turn off for many people.

After installing, a new…

So I logged in to my Adsense account today to check on how things were going, and I was surprised to see something new. Apparently, Adsense has has consorted with YouTube (both Google entities) to bring you videos that you can place on your website with advertisements built right into the unit. This may not be new, but it is at least new to me. Hmm, ok, sounds interesting right? Let’s see how they look. Below are some screenshots of two of the three types of video players. The full player is too big to fit in this post. Yes, you read correctly. Feel free to click in it’s thumbnail for the full size.
Small YouTube/Adsense…

So I’ve been toying around with porting HTML code into wordpress themes for a little while now. There are a number of sources out there that assist, but dang it can be confusing. I’m nothing of a code guru (as you will be able to tell), but I’ve decided to start a new mini-tutorial series called “Turning Your Site into a Wordpress Theme: Step by Step“. It’ll span a number of articles for the next few weeks, so keep your eye out for it!
If you want to make sure you don’t miss part of the series, I recommend you subscribe to the RSS Feed. Look for the first article in the next few days.

The following review is sponsored by AudioVisual Management Worldwide. All opinions are genuine and are not influenced by the sponsorship. What does this mean?
When I was originally contacted by AudioVisual Management Wordwide (AVMW) to review their website I was skeptical. I almost turned down the offer because it wasn’t in my usuall sphere of blogging. However, I’ve been thinking about expanding my blogging horizons, and this is as good a time as any.
The Audio/Visual needs of many companies are great, and increasing all the time. Individuals may not need this service, but if you run a company you know how important this part of the meetings can be. That is where AVMW comes in. Based out…
