Freelance WordPress Plugin: Market Product Manager May 22 2008 | One Comment

Off-and-on for the past several weeks I’ve been working on a freelance WordPress plugin for the Market Theme, a premium WordPress theme that converts your site into an online store. The theme is top notch. It makes selling both digital goods and mailed good extremely simple. So what was my role? I designed the Market Product Manager plugin which provides a much easier way to add products into the system. The theme, as most advanced themes, relies heavily on custom fields. For many users, however, custom…

WordPress 2.5 Public Release Mar 29 2008 | 5 Comments

WordPress 2.5 was released to the public today in an announcement apparently made at WordCamp Dallas. Along with the public release comes face lift for WordPress.org. Anyone looking for a high traffic, PR7 WordPress-related site? Small Potato announced today that he’s selling WPDesigner.com, his extremely popular WordPress blog that he uses to release themes and report on other WordPress news. Controlling non-WordPress Subfolder Access with .htaccess Feb 16 2008 | 3 Comments

WordPress users commonly use the built-in permalink redirection. This means that rather then having your new blog article’s URL look like “http://myblog.com/?p=78″, you make it look like this: “http://myblog.com/articles/my-article-title.” This feature means WordPress interprets the URL query of your blog and outputs the corresponding article.

This is great for readability and SEO, but what if you want to add a non-WordPress subfolder to your website with, say, a forum in it? If you make your forum address “http://myblog.com/forum/”, WordPress will try to interpret this URL. Not being able to find anything, you will get your blog’s 404 error page. Luckily, fixing this is easy.

If you are running on an Apache server, using a simple .htaccess file is…
